1st Stage of Paint

The painters have been in last week and should finish off this week. We decided on only one colour for the walls (Hogbristle) and white for the ceiling and skirting. It was too expensive to ask them to do feature walls, over $200 per wall and $400+ for a room in a different colour. Easy enough to pick up some paint after handover and do it ourselves. Mind you a tin of paint is going to cost $100, why is that? I still can't figure it out. The exterior of the house has been fully bricked, they just need to paint and stain the doors and fit the garage door. Electricians in next week, it will be nice to see some lighting being put in. It is getting closer and we are hoping for hand-over within the next 4 weeks. Here are some photo's from today...

Painters in..

Last Thursday we did a walk through with our site Supervisor and Scott pointed out a few things that need to be fixed, other than that everything seems to be coming together. The painters started on Wednesday and will be there for most of this week, and then once they are done they will start the fit out.
Meanwhile I have been getting quote after quote for a driveway. Last one tomorrow.

Bathroom almost there.

Just a few pics of how our bathroom is coming along... it seems to be taking a little longer than anticipated.

Fixes Required & Enclosed Stage Achieved

We had a good look over the house this weekend and we found several deficiencies. Many to do with the ceiling. There are undulations in some parts where the difference from one end of the ceiling to another is as much as 15mm. There seems to be a problem that runs the entire width of the house from the Main Bedroom through the Alfresco and into the Living Area. The ceiling dips and it is really obvious in the cornicing. Some of the windows surrounds have also had the cornering sanded back quite severely and one window frame is not fixed properly at the top, it moves about an inch when pushed. The garage also has a dip in the ceiling and much of the skirting board has been nailed too far from the corners for my liking. This will probably lead to cracking of the paint in future as the house settles. They have also used quad timber to fill some gaps in the corners of rooms where the door-frame meets the wall, it does not look good as it only runs up one side and the door frame is no longer aesthetically correct. It has also split during nailing. Quad timber looks nice when joining your skirting to your flooring, but really looks crap running up a wall.

Quad Timber

There is also a short wall from the Kitchen to the Hall that is warped. Although the length is only 400mm the concave nature of that short strip is clearly evident. Luckily we had a meeting with our stand-in site manager yesterday and he took note of many of the problems we pointed out. I reckon these things are just a natural progress of building a house. So far Plantation Homes have been very professional and their communication responsive with quick follow-ups. So we are now at "Enclosed Stage". This means that the exterior of the house is completed, although today they still had a few top level bricks to lay. That never stopped the invoice from arriving though ;) We are really looking forward to the next stage, where they fit out the interior. The tiler arrived yesterday and as you can see from previous pictures the carcasses of the cupboards are already in place. Now we just need dates of handover to start pulling everything together, as we still have landscaping, fencing and driveway to organise.
